5 Easy Thanksgiving Appetizers With a Twist

When it comes to food, especially during Thanksgiving, it has to be just right. It's not just a snack before a meal, it's a marathon of and within itself. Put another way, have you ever felt lethargic even before the main meal? Well, it could be what you eat. It's certainly surprising how many of our favorite Thanksgiving appetizers can induce sleep. I'll be revamping some classic appetizers into something even tastier.

In many dishes, the perfect appetizer is probably not the right dish before a Thanksgiving meal. There are a slew of delectable appetizer recipes out there, so it isn't really necessary to include them in this article. This is for you to get some appetizer ideas for Thanksgiving, so that no one thinks your food is ordinary.

1. Cheese and Crackers

You might think that a cheese plate and its distant cousin, the cheese ball, might be an easy dish to munch on since it's a cheap and easy to prepare dish. But, it can lead to negative side effects. Because the high carb rich cracker with cheese, tryptophan, is readily produced. Tryptophan, among other things, will allow the body to produce serotonin and melatonin, which aid in falling asleep. This will make the main course less sweet.

Instead, try Sea Salt Novacrisps with grapes or certain citrus fruits. Even jam might be a great choice. The crispness combined with a refreshing burst of citrus.

2. Spinach Artichoke Dip

Spinach and artichoke have many minerals and nutrients that can keep you energized for the coming meal.  Some of which are iron, and folate that can keep you energized.  The dip isn't complete without the chips.  The problem with your favorite tortilla chip flavors are, you'll probably feel a little dry mouthed or feel like there's too much of one flavor.  You'll need something tasty, yet not so salty.  How about the White Vegan Cheddar Novacrisps?  It'll go so well with the creamy dip.

3. Black Olive Spread with Crisps

The perfect finger foods are those that not only taste good, but are good for you.  This might not be for everyone, but black olive spread is a delicious and really easy to make, healthy appetizer.  If you want, you can add additional olive oil into the spread to add a little more flavor, go ahead!  Bonus point, eat it with Sea Salt Novacrisps.  Delish!

4. Salsa and Crisps

Salsa is a great dish that keeps you awake. Tomatoes have tyramine, which triggers the brain to release norepinephrine, which stimulates the brain to stay awake. Sodium also triggers frequent bathroom breaks. An excellent combination would be Sea Salt Novacrisps with Salsa. You don't have to take my word, just try it for yourself.

But, there are some other reasons why salsa is a good choice for you. Although, it is out of scope, here are some of the many benefits of offering this spicy dish on Thanksgiving. It's hydrating, will help you burn fat, and can stabilize blood sugar.

5. Chocolate

This sweet and creamy texture finger food, has many benefits, from cocoa, but it also has stimulating compounds such as, theobromine, and caffeine. While, "Theobromine interferes with the nervous system, respiratory system, and cardiovascular system (eg, vasodilation), as well as resulting in excess urination (ie, diuresis). In very high amounts, it can cause increased heart rate, sweating, trembling, loss of appetite, severe headache, and drops in blood pressure." says Naveed Saleh, M.D., M.S.from Psychology Today.

It also has benefits, including, lower blood pressure, improved cardiovascular health, and better focus. There are many other benefits, but this is beyond the scope of this article.
